When it was time to release a follow-up single to the charting "Wake Me Up (When The World's Worth Waking Up For)" it was decided that "Arianne" needed an edit to be more "radio-friendly". It was so subtle, and I really didn't think it was necessary, and in fact I thought it took away from the building style of the arrangement. But you pick your battles, and this one was relatively minor, so I just said, "Whatever". And it turned out to be a cool thing, not the edit so much, but the session for the edit was at Westlake Audio, one of my fave recording studios where I had cut a lot of stuff, and where Michael Jackson's biggest hits were cut. And who was in the writing room there? None other than legendary writer/producer Rod Temperton (Thriller/Heatwave--wiki him). I got to hang out with him for an hour or so while he was working. A great memory with one of my favorites. The edit took about 10 minutes, but I stretched it out to spend more time with Mr. Temperton.
